The offices of the Portland Mercury are for the most part, empty all night, as well. Just like Peter Stott Center at fucking Portland State University.
2
I think the real hypocrisy here, is in the fact that the Police don't do shit about off leash dogs or their crapping in the park, butt if some wretched derelict collapses from exhaustion, so desperate as to have to sleep in that dog shit, the pigs write him a ticket he can't afford. Unlike the dog owners who pay tens of thousands of dollars at some point in their pet's life, to a vet for some futile surgical procedure, and so could easily afford the fines for off leash and not picking up their dog's own shit.
3
You realize that PSU and the Merc. don't pretend to be charities, right? Slightly different.

I agree about fining the offleash non-shit-picker-uppers, though. I stepped in shit yesterday. Make them pay.
4
Portland State University and The Portland Mercury do pretend to be socially responsible. It's just lip service. Christians aren't the only hypocrites.
5
"Socially responsible" isn't the same as "personally responsible for housing all the homeless in Portland".
6
Portland State University possess how many acres of city blocks with high rise buildings? The lights are all on, 24/7, even during the holiday breaks and thermostat is set at 74 degrees, all year long. It's public property. The fucking bums have a right to sleep on the fucking floor of the gym if the want to. They can even use the showers if they aren't allergic to soap, by now, too.
7
If you try to appear to be socially responsible when in fact you aren't, that makes you a hypocrite. Relative Moralism or Situational Ethics, notwithstanding.
8
A public asset isn't really the same as public property. Even students who pay to attend PSU can't stay in the buildings all night every night (I did once have 24 hour access to one of the labs, but I had to get security to let me in after 10 PM, and had a pass code for the lab door).

By your logic, we should welcome the homeless into our public elementary schools as well. Except that maybe we shouldn't trust total strangers around children.

I don't suppose you read about the case of the homeless man who murdered the woman who put him up in her apartment for the night? And then went on to murder a homeless teenager before he was caught? I'm not saying that all homeless people are murderers, but safety is something to consider. They are a troubled demographic.

PSU has it's own Gestapo. Let them watch over everybody and see that they all get a peaceful night's sleep in just one of the many buildings. The floor of the halls in the basement of Peter Stott Center, adjacent to the locker rooms, would be more than sufficient. This would eliminate the need for the guards to patrol the campus at night looking to evict bums sleeping in doorways, and eliminate the need for Portland Police to write tickets to bums who can't afford fines for sleeping on dogshit in the park. Not to necessarily eliminate all safety patrollers or Portland Pigs, but it would result in a lighter work load, and justify a smaller workforce, thus saving a shitload of tax payer dollars.
10
You're right. All problems would go away if PSU would just decide it was for some reason their job to clean them up.
11
Portland State University pretends to be socially responsible, yet it spends a great deal of money raising swastikas on all every street corner with storm troopers establishing territory and abusively eliminating American citizens from public sidewalks adjacent to it's property, while employing illegal aliens as janitors who inhabit the interior of the buildings at night.

PSU could single handedly solve the "homeless problem" of downtown Portland. They have plenty of nice warm, dry space to sleep, showers, sinks and toilets for proper hygiene, a cafeteria that wastes tons of food everyday, and an entire college of social workers that could earn practicum for counseling and assisting the indigent to obtain Federal student financial aid, of more than $20K per year, per impoverished new student.

Wouldn't you rather the bums rubbing elbows with you downtown, didn't have dog shit all over them?

I appreciate your pitching me softball questions, Forty.
12
Oh I see.... you're totally nuts, huh? Sorry, took me a minute to catch on, apparently.
13
None of this lets the churches off the hook. They could get all so-called, "homeless" off the streets, as well.

For what it's worth, I inform as many street people as will listen, about how any US citizen or permanent resident who has subsisted on less than six grand per year for the past two consecutive years, and is not currently in default on student loans, and has not used the maximum of student financial aid benefits, is eligible for the maximum in student loans and grants.

A student could comfortably live on this for about ten to twelve years; from an associates degree to a doctorate.

Almost everyone I talk to, either says that they don't like school, or they don't want to owe any money. As far as I know, nobody has ever taken advantage of the educational opportunity to get off the streets.

Go figg'a.
14
Oh don't worry, nobody here is trying to let churches off the hook for anything. I'm comfortable with them on the hook.
15
Yeah, like that church at PSU. What the hell do they ever do?

Revelation 3:13-19 (King James Version)

13He that hath an ear, let him hearwhat the Spirit saith unto the churches.14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write ; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;15I knowthy works, that thou artneither cold nor hot: I would thou wertcold or hot.16So then because thou artlukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I willspuethee out of my mouth.17Because thou sayest , I amrich, and increased with goods , and haveneed of nothing; and knowestnot that thou artwretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:18I counselthee to buyof me gold triedin the fire, that thou mayest be rich ; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed , and that the shame of thy nakedness donot appear ; and anointthine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see .19As many as I love , I rebukeand chasten : be zealoustherefore, and repent .

So, PSU pays the apostate, Ecumenical Ministry more than a million bucks to stop what little it is that they ever managed to do, the church takes the money and runs, while the university proceeds to pat itself on the back for helping the community.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
