I swear this is a repost from last summer

Stereotypes are oftentimes based on truth. I ride the MAX to and from work and the scenario is usually the same- young dudes agressively hit on a girl by herself, girl becomes visibly annoyed or uncomfortable, guys turn angry and call girl names like bitch and/or slut.

"It was 1 AM and I was walking the 4 blocks back to my car after a show. I was alone, female, and wearing a short dress."

"I've been raped and all my friends have been, too."

I'm not condoning the behavior of this group of guys...and I'm not trying to blame the victim... but...

Don't walk around alone late at night, dressed like a harlot and you'll be fine.
5
Start by not using insensitive racist terms like "pitch black" and maybe we wont fire back with insensitive remarks about your gender.
6
You need to start packin heat, yo. Bust some caps up in dey ass and make a motherfucker RESPECT.

Sarah Palin would.
7
"What it taught me is that men are disgusting fucking predators,"

Well at least you're not overreacting...
8
This is a legitimate beef, and I have no snark for it. Those guys were fuckin' jerks at best. Being able to walk down the street without being harassed or given shit should be a basic right.
9
"I'm not condoning the behavior of this group of guys...and I'm not trying to blame the victim"

...But I'm gonna do just that.

I'm not a racist/sexist/homophobe/poor-hater, but....

Yeah, actually you are, douche.

By the way, Portland streets are not safe. Have you looked up the rape rate here. Arm yourself.

In all seriousness, she should have just dressed like a ghost or a zombie. Everybody knows black people are extremely superstitious. A little fake blood and some leaky brains and they would have run for the hills.

What? She probably spent 90 minutes putting on make up before she went out anyway.

I wish this whole thing hadn't gotten me to read "the morning after" by Katie Roiphe

http://openlibrary.org/works/OL2652472W/Th…

I don't agree with all of it, nor am I a huge fan of her rhetorical approach, and now whenever I read something like Anonymous wrote I start to ask really non-PC questions...
13
Hi jamdox how are you doing.

I wonder if people ask themselves if I am black or white while I am wearing my Public Enemy hoodie.
14
I highly suggest investing in some mace and a taser gun.
Also, going to shows with friends is much safer than going somewhere alone at night with nothing to protect yourself with.
15
So I'm just guessing, but I think a Black woman in the same circumstances would also walk across the street.
The media tells us that 1 of 3 Black Male youths have been arrested and or have a record. Plenty of reason to be suspicious...I'm just sayin'...

"It has nothing to do with race," she said.

Street harassment is horrible, and I'm sorry it happened to you. I am also sorry to hear about your past. That is also terrible.

However, using this story as a vehicle for your not so subtle racism is bullshit. Consider the population of Portland. Now consider how many Black people there are compared to White people (not that many). It's more likely to be harassed by a White man. So bringing up "some stereotypes are true, I'm not racist" just really derails the whole conversation about rape culture. White men rape and harass too. Men rape. Rape culture is the problem.
17
Cultural rape heap big problem too. Just ask all Native people. Stupid white man rape everything, always put dick where no belong.

Please wait...
