If your perspective weren't skewed, you'd know that you're living in a world populated mostly by entitled assholes whose spawn and pets are too special to be trained. Woe be unto anyone pointing this out, however--they'll be the target of a strongly-worded I,A.
They had child-free apartment complexes in the 70's, can you imagine how awesome that would be?
Yes people are spoiled but I think it's more that people just don't want to put up with a lot of the bullshit the whole "social contract" imposes on others. "I have children therefor you have to tolerate them when we turn your favorite restaurant into a Chuck E Cheese screamfest." "I know my dog is supposed to be on a leash but he never leaves my side and it's your fault he attacked you because you were riding a bike", etc. I think what you are experiencing is the harsh toke of reality. Not everyone wants to put of with bratty kids, stupid dogs, or the passive belligerence of shitty parents/pet owners.
Now pick up that dog poop and get that ADD child of yours under control and/or proper medication.
I'anon, I love animals and babies, and children. What I don't like is people that think everyone on this site is is a clone of each other. You are wrong that it just happened overnight that the world became a selfish place, and we are all the same.
Do you ever make remarks you could take back? Do you find this a place for people who just talk about bad dogs and out of control children?
In the day, we behaved for the most part because our elders did not take crap from us. In other words, it has all ways been the same ole same ole.
You have not met my 9 year old grandson or my sister's dog. They could make you change your mind.
Keep looking through rose colored glasses and you will understand. In the meantime, enjoy the rants about traffic, cars, bikes, unicycles and public transportation.
"I cannot remember the last time I was "bothered" by a bratty kid."
I cannot remember the last time I wasn't. But I eat out a lot and tend to frequent establishments that have been known to tolerate the dB children bring to the dining experience.
What happened? Well, they are packing us into parts of Portland like sardines. This is your car-free density and it is pretty miserable. Vibrant? That means thin walls in your crappy studio. It means Piccolo Park near Clinton is filled with dog poop. And, thanks to our stupid city council, inner Portland will get more crowded. No parking apartment- no problem. Just park your car on the street. Then, allow your neighbors to operate a black market motel because- hey- we can never stuff too many people into Portland. Sorry if you don't like kids in Portland's over-priced restaurants. Some of us have backyards and we BBQ in peace. Suckas.
Me thinks the Reverend is on to something here. I'm not sure that it's the actual behavior described here that's the problem. I think the fact that we can't escape it due to overcrowding is what's driving everyone fucking bonkers.
Of course there will be douchebags wherever you go, but as the population continues to expand, and as parents become increasingly feckless and irresponsible, you've got a population in serious moral/behavioral decline.
I wouldn't dream of bringing a child into this world right now. Maybe if I was rich and isolated I would, but then I'd be the same asshole I've grown to hate.
In closing I'Anon, of course none of us actually own the ground beneath us, but the powers that be are excellent scam artists and bullshit brokers. They've trained us to believe that each of us can have whatever we want if we hard enough and that it won't have a negative impact on others. Even if most people don't buy into that bullshit, they still operate like they do.
What is it about this week that's brought all the "quit being so negative, man" types to the I,A board? Why are you seeking out negativity if you find it so offensive? Go look at cuteoverload.com or some shit if you need warm fuzzies.

Almost everyday, I see a dog that makes me realize I need to adopt a dog soon.
Move someplace where people are genuine and don't live in chipboard cubes.
