My great grandmother Rosa came up from Mexico to work the crops in Colorado with her Mom and siblings. Around the Holiday dinner tables I remember my relatives saying "yeah Granddad Jess married a lady from Spain". My family I guess didn't want to admit to Mexican blood, but European blood (even though a little off-white) was okay. I finally saw a picture of her and her Mom. They were lovely ladies dressed up for a photo in turn of the 20th century fancy dresses, but looked like they knew hard work. I'm very proud of them, I like latin music, I like to keep my car clean, better not move into our complex and spoil our fun.

I think you should not have mentioned race in the same breathe as saying it's not about race. By the same token, you do have a point about stereotypes… a lot of comedians (Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Louis C.K…etc) make a living off pointing out and making fun of them. And yes, you have yet another point: The commentors were just as guilty as you for pointing out race, which they apparently assumed. I would say they even went one step further, and that was to call you names but I wouldn't expect any apologies anytime soon. I have a neighbor who LOVES to rev his fucking engine at random hours for no apparent reason. I won't mention his race, but he does wear a Harley Davidson T-shirt, drinks Budweiser beer and listens to classic rock. Any guesses?
