Maybe you subconsciously like dating people who you feel don't have their shit together, because once you get them roped in and you're both comfortable, you think they'd be less likely to leave you. So it's about fear of abandonment, tied in with not liking yourself, tied in with how attractive crazy people can be when you add in the excitement of just meeting someone...

This is what I always think when someone is a shit magnet, which is basically everybody dating in Portland right now.

I think there are also just a lot of people out there who are emotionally unstable to varying degrees... probably a lot more than anybody realizes, because so many people are good at putting up fronts. And if you went through marriages and long-term relationships, you'd find just as many people who are walking disasters, so it isn't about people who are single.
