I enjoyed about 70% of the dances this year. But the evening on a whole, sort have got on my nerves. Why? You may ask Mr. Coleman? Well, put simply: they changed out the fucking stage after every fucking piece. Now, last time I checked, I thought the idea behind this event was to even the playing field for the dancers and choreographers participating. That is, to give everyone the same restrictions, the same stage, the same contained space to work from and create an interesting and innovative piece of dance with. This year was so saturated by custom made stages, with full on set designs, and ridiculous props, it was almost more of a pissing contest between designers. Ok, sorry. I'm getting worked up here. To finish this rant I will button it with this: I thought the event was supposed to be called 'Ten Tiny Dances' not 'Ten Tiny Stages'. Sheesh.

Agreed. So many gimmicks to not much effect. Wigs, boobs, crotches, microphones for all, disintegrating costumes and trophies - oh my. I mean why?

Please wait...
