A record collector who bought a used LP online found a heartfelt note inside from the mother of the man who originally owned it. Reddit user "Muctor" posted the note after opening the record (an original copy of Soundgarden's Superunknown, purchased for $127.50) this evening and said the message hit them "right in the feels." With more than a thousand comments in just a few hours, the Reddit post is goingβ€”as the kids sayβ€”"viral."

The note writer gives a brief history of her music-loving son, who passed away in 2002 while running in the "Oregon coastal mountains." She's selling some of his old records to help pay for her grandson's education. Here's the text:

Dear Collector β€”-
Just in case you want to know where this record came from:-
I am Mark's mother β€” Mark left us in 2002 β€” he suffered a heart attack at age 39 while running in the Oregon coastal mountains - the only consolation we have is that he died in a beautiful place doing what he loved most, running, music and of course his son, Kai (Mark was an ocean surfer) - Mark collected this music in the 80s while attending college β€” I would ask him on occasion when he slepped all this music home (2000 cd + over 600 vinyl LP's)! "What do you want me to do with all this music" if something should happen to you β€”β€”- "Listen to it, Mom" he would say β€”β€” well, I did listen to a few but now it is time to share them β€” and I am doing the best I can β€” doing research, listening, shipping etc β€” but it is good therapy to me to see this music being shared all over the world β€” and the $s from it will go towards Kai's education β€”β€” thank you for your support β€” and when you play it β€”β€” play it loud for Mark!
Cheers, Sabine

Mark's mother and Kai's grandmother, Sabine Miner, is a Philomath, Oregon-based artist and cancer survivor (here's her Etsy page).

You can check out some of Mark's old records that Sabine is selling here.

And while we're here, let's honor Mark and rock out to some Soundgarden and their weird/fantastic video for "Black Hole Sun":
