At last! A comedy showcase you can go to right after work!

This new showcase, Do What You Love, is an adorable idea and I am definitely going. From a press release sent by Alex Falcone, occasional Merc contributor, who's co-producing the show with Curtis Cook:

A couple things that sets this show apart from the multitude of great comedy options:
- It's Portland's only happy hour comedy show. Doors open at 5:30, so you can go right after work.
- It's better than most happy hours, because there's free beer, coffee, and food. Which is crazy, but also true.

Portland is lousy with comedy showcases, you may say! And you're right. (I mean this as a compliment, in case you have no figurative language detector and literally think I am talking about head lice, and not a most-welcome preponderance!)

This one, however, is filling a particular, cranky need for comedy showcases that start at a reasonable hour, for those of us who are just inclined to go home after work and recede quietly into our couches until 8 pm, the usual start time of most enriching evening events, at which point we are too ensconced tired to leave our comfortable homes.

Hey cool, you don't have an excuse anymore! The showcase's first installment will feature Bri Pruett (who tells the best feminist jokes and sometimes ALSO writes for the Mercury), Matt Monroe (he just moved here from Denver, be nice), Caitlin Weierhauser (truly one of the city's most wonderful and underrated comedians), and David Mascorro (also a solid choice). The inaugural show is set for May 5 at 6:15 at WeWork Portland.
