City council got catty last night, with Mayor Charlie Hales' proposed business tax hike—and its subsequent (apparent) defeat—leading to a very raw exchange between Hales and Commissioner Nick Fish. "Shame on you..." etc.

RIP to Geek Love author Katherine Dunn, who died of complications with lung cancer at the age of 70.

If the first Oregon Occupier
to plead guilty is any indication, things aren't going to go great for the rest. Scott Willingham wasn't even charged with conspiracy like the rest, and will likely do six months in federal prison and two years of post-prison supervision.

Fun fact!
Wells Fargo is not just a name affixed to our city's highest building. It's also a bank that forces its workers to act like it has the ability to collect mortgage payments, even when it doesn't. At least according to a local whistleblower lawsuit.

Gresham now has its own (semi) organized homeless camp, the cops say they're going to let it stay put.

How's the middle class faring
in Portland these days? Not great, as in many other cities, the NYT shows. Unlike some other areas, that loss is being offset by gains in both the upper and lower classes.

Thanks, Obama. The feds are reiterating the public schools must honor transgender students' gender identities when it comes to locker rooms and restrooms, or risk losing federal funding. The Oregon Dept. of Education just ruled similarly. Here's some Scorpions for you to listen to.

Today in bad Republicans: Oregon Congressman Greg Walden is falling in line behind Donald Trump.

And Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has already caved to his party's presidential nominee, like we all knew he would. Ryan still hasn't endorsed Trump, but they were all buddy-buddy yesterday.

Trump is promising to release his tax returns, which he insists are none of anyone's damn business, but it might be after the election.

Derek on KMHD just said its going to get to 90 today. The Weather Widget begs to differ, DEREK.
