After eight weeks of league play, the Thorns remain the only undefeated team after holding on to a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Red Stars. Christine Sinclair scored her first goal of the 2016 season and her 18th goal as a Thorn in the 25th minute of the game. Also, IT WAS CHRISTINE SINCLAIR'S BIRTHDAY!
BURSTING CANADIAN PARTY HORNS!

However fantastic it was to see that goal, it was doubly disappointing to watch a 'mega bouncy ball' (technical term) get away from Thorn's goalkeeper Adrianna Franch. The stat was awarded to Red Star Forward Christen Press—but it looked like gravity did most of the work. SORRY CHRISTEN, WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED (Get it? Cause her last name is Press?)

It was great to watch a healthy Thorn's team with a number of starters back from national duties. The Thorns looked confident throughout the game and increasingly promising with every substitution. But during the first half, on more than one occasion I felt my mind drifting, thinking “Is this Chicago team really supposed to be better than us?” and “Who do I know who has a boat or a pool?” and “Why does this country have mass shootings? Are things getting better or worse? What can happen next? Is anyone safe?”

It was hard to keep focus with 6-8 tabs open on my computer (Can someone constantly remind me to stop reading the comments?), but having the Thorns on the field after a week or so break was a treasure to watch.

The Thorns play again on Friday June 17th at 4 pm at Western New York. You can catch the live stream here.

Western New York Flash are currently ranked second in the league, under the Chicago Red Stars. Here's hoping the Thorns can continue to hold to their impeccable road record, and capture the three points that will thrust them to the number one spot. And here’s to great distractions and soccer filled weekends.

Keep each other safe and love your neighbor.
