Yesterday the folks at Pickathon announced the next two releases in their "Live at Pickathon" vinyl series, in which each side of a full-length LP features a performer recorded live at the Portland-area music festival. The two new releases for 2016 will be Woods/The Men (featuring sets recorded in 2014) and Vetiver/Wolf People (with sets from 2015). Previous installments of this series have been superb, and these two promise to be no exception.

If you're a regular reader of the Mercury, you might have noticed that we think pretty highly of the English band Wolf People—check out my 2015 article on the band and their Pickathon appearance—so this particular announcement is cause for great excitement. It even looks as though the Wolf People side of the Vetiver/Wolf People split will include a live rendition of an as-yet-unreleased song, "Rhine Sagas," although the tune is likely to be included on the upcoming Wolf People album that has been murmured about.

In the meantime, we have an exclusive track from Wolf People's Live at Pickathon, the excellent "Silbury Sands," which originally kicked off their 2010 album Steeple.

(If this isn't enough, and I understand if it isn't, OPB just posted a video of Wolf People from their Woods Stage set last year with a thundering take of "One by One from Dorney Reach." It's fucking great. Check it out.)

Both live LPs were pressed at the great Cascade Record Pressing in Milwaukie, Oregon, and they'll be available for sale on August 9, right after 2016's Pickathon fest, which takes place August 4-7 at Pendarvis Farm. For lots more info about that and ticketing, go to Pickathon's site. And while you're waiting for August to get here, you can preorder both live split LPs through Easy Sound Recording Company.
