Tonight the Hollywood Theatre kicks off its 70mm Extravaganza—a solid month of 70mm screenings, all to celebrate the theater's 90th anniversary. This 70mm series starts with a big one: Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, which might be my favorite movie of all time. If you didn't catch it the first time the Hollywood had it in 70mm—or hell, even if you did—there's really no reason not to see this thing again on the big screen. It's a moviegoing experience you won't soon forget.

2001 runs tonight through Sun July 3, and the Hollywood "can neither confirm nor deny" the Mercury's EXCLUSIVE SCOOP, first reported in this week's Film Shorts, that there might be a LIVE MONKEY IN ATTENDANCE!!!

Next weekend the series continues with another movie I'm just as excited to see again in 70—Lawrence of Arabia (screens Fri July 8-Sun July 10):

And then there's West Side Story (Fri July 15-Sun July 17)...

... and, finally, motherfucking Aliens (Fri July 15-Sun July 17). This one's gonna be nuts.

So! There's your next few weekends all figured out. See you there.
