These videos are always cool. Here's Portland State football coach Bruce Barnum announcing to his team yesterday that (now former) walk-on running back Mitchell Thompson is getting a scholarship during the opening days of fall football practice:

Thompson doesn't react much, but the response from his teammates is great. Here's what the Portland State athletics website has to say:

THOMPSON GETS A SCHOLLY: Running back Mitch Thompson walked on to Portland State from Oregon City High School in 2013. Thompson, a diminutive 5-7, 170 pounds, spent a year on scout team, played in one game in 2014, then earned time at special teams and running back in 2015. He had a total of nine tackles on special teams and rushed a total of nine times for 92 yards. His 68-yard breakaway touchdown run in a 66-7 win at North Texas was a highlight in a Viking season filled with highlights. As a result of his growing contributions, Head Coach Bruce Barnum surprised Thompson by presenting him with a scholarship on Sunday night in the team's first meeting of the season. The presentation brought a raucous celebration from Thompson's teammates.
