ICYMI: The volunteer board that oversees changes to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is going on a 60-day hiatus:

"I applaud the recess," wrote Kathleen Saadatā€”COAB chair from June 2015 to June 2016ā€”in an email today. The issue of who will replace Saadat, and who who gets to make that decision, has been a big issue for the COAB recently. "This gives everyone a chance to give thought to what needs to be reconfigured/redesigned to help untangle the imbroglio of thoughts, feelings, policies, missteps, and good intentions surrounding this opportunity. It is of critical importance to maintain a vehicle that provides for input from a broad spectrum of Portland residents. At this point, that imperfect but still viable vehicle is the COAB."

Not everybody is pleased with the shutdown.

"I think it's a crock," said Handelman, who's been closely following Portland police accountability measures for years. "What the COAB needs is to be able to be reconstituted so they can focus on how to get their work done."

The homeless camp that recently cropped up in Laurelhurst Park was swept Tuesday morning. Here's the Tribune:

Some campers say this isnā€™t a permanent solution for them because they donā€™t have anywhere else to go.

ā€œThis last minute stuff isnā€™t good enough for me, we need an extension here,ā€ camper Mike Jenkins said. ā€œIf Springwater gets and extension, why canā€™t we get an extension here?ā€

A Multnomah County grand jury has indicted Javier Fernando Hernandez and Cynthia Anne Scholer in the 2015 killing of then-21-year-old Kyle Polk. Hernandez also faces weapons charges, and Scholer's docket includes "tampering with physical evidence."

In Italy, at least 73 people have been killed following an earthquake in the Umbria region that's affected three towns in the area. It was a 6.2-magnitude quake followed by a 5.5-magnitude tremor.

In Baltimore, police have been using aerial surveillance modeled on military technology. Oh, and they neglected to tell the public.

Q: What is Donald Trump wrong about today? A: AIRPLANES! Trump has suggested Boeing needs saving and he'll be the one to do it. Actual aviation experts are like, "Nah."

Meanwhile: Employees of the nation's major defense contractors like Lockheed Martin have historically backed Republican candidates financially. This year, they've given overwhelmingly to Hillary Clinton. "Donors with ties to Pentagon contractors may simply be betting Clinton will win," reports Politico. "But some say they are concerned about Trump's pronouncements on national security, which have included skepticism about NATOā€™s role in countering Russia, and they fear he will follow through on his pledge to upend business as usual in Washington."

Today, in horrors: McDonald's is recalling Happy Meal fitness track prizes (prizes?) citing wrist burns.

TV's Laura Ingalls Wilder was running for Congress. Now she isn't.

Well this is insufferable.

But this is not. Good morning!
