Just in time for rising temperatures and sunnier days, Portland has a brand new surf shop named Leeward. Owned and operated by Lyndsey Faulkner, it aims “to connect the community with the ocean and support surfers, shapers, artists and designers that perpetuate exploration and inspire the creative process.” Along with the requisite surfboards, wetsuits, and drybags that are expected at a surf shop, Leeward will also stock a range of women’s and men’s apparel that include new and vintage items as well as an assortment of apothecary, publications, records, art, and ceramics that will help bring a coastal feel into your home. The shop has been open since March, but if you haven’t stopped by, the perfect time to do so would be at their grand opening party. Plenty of refreshments will be available as well as a live performance from the Vernor Pantons, new artwork by Yasmina Dedijer-Small, as well as giveaways.
Leeward, 2504 NE Sandy, grand opening party Thurs May 11, 5-9 pm, store hours Tues-Sat 12-6 pm, Sun 12-4 pm
If you are mad as fuck that the clowns in the White House and congress keep trying and succeeding to defund Planned Parenthood, here’s a great event. Lille Boutique will celebrate their 10-year anniversary with Bodies Empowered, which is a fundraiser that hopes to raise $20,000 for the non-profit, and includes a fashion show exclusively featuring looks from Turkish brand Else Lingerie. Everyone involved are donating their time (including myself, full disclosure) and every single dollar made at this event will go straight to Planned Parenthood. Of course the fashion show is the main attraction, but also worth noting are the awesome raffle and auction items up for grabs from nearly every designer carried at Lille (including Stella McCartney, Eberjey, and Fortnight) as well as Elizabeth Dye, Seven Sisters, Gild Shoes, She Bop, Jupiter Hotel, Voicebox Karaoke, Pok Pok, Bishop’s Barber Shop, Urban Waxx, and more. Also! Else Lingerie designer Ela Onur will travel all the way from Turkey to attend the event, because threats to women’s rights and access to affordable healthcare is a global issue as well. (Seriously, ITMFA.)
Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, Fri May 12, 6-9 pm, $15-$50, tickets at lilleboutique.com/be
And if Bodies Empowered leaves you wanting more, Ela Onur will host a trunk show the following day at Lille Boutique featuring the Else Lingerie pieces from the show.
