I appreciate you running this article. It's probably helpful to have some real stats to counter misconceptions about who these people are and what's likely to help them. On that note, when you run articles like this in the future, can you include something towards the end about what would be a good step to take if you want to help out? Thanks.
Unless Portland has enough money to provide services to every homeless person in the country, it will continue to be an unsolveable problem locally. Provide supportive and housing services to folks down on their luck, disabled, mentally ill, etc., but combine that with much stricter laws on camping, public drug use, etc. It's not okay for all of Portland's taxpayers to be subsidizing the lifestyles of the homeless-by-choice crowd.
