Ah, another hipster crime.

could someone help me understand this week's I,A graphic...is it supposed to show a female hipster's secondary sex characteristic change after she grows "...some balls"? This is the 2nd week in a row where the graphic is not only unclear, but, well, lame! There's GOT to be another aspiring artist out there dying to work at pdx Mercury...c'mon! this is Portlandia...one who can actually week after week, illustrate effectively and with humour the column's intent. Think: cartoons and comics...those are the artists this column desperately needs. Not saying to totally boot Kalah Allen, but maybe put him in rotation with some other new, hungry, better talent since the strain of, week after week, year in and year out, is prooving way too much for him.

+1 for endorsing shoplifting from non-locally owned businesses
+1 for ascribing political motives to someone based on the fact that they wear the same clothes as all the other young people
+1 for "pseudo-pretentious"
+1 for "local businesses are people"
-1 for admitting that you just use the word "hipster" as an all-purpose pejorative
-1 for each time you said "bitch"

When did "hipster" become a worse pejorative than "thief"? Is the complaint here that local businesses are being robbed by pretentious young people rather than Jean Valjean?
6
Marvelous. Not only has the stereotype of the Portland hipster become tiresome, but now, so has bitching about them.
7
I will not be happy till we round up all the hipsters and ship them off to a remote island. Only then will be have the Utopian existance that we all deserve.
8
The author really should have kept things fresh and called them rapscallions instead.
9
Won't somebody please do something about this, the most important problem facing our community, whatever it is?
10
To be honest, i don't see what hipsters have to do with thievery. Thieves are thieves, & they come in all types.
11
"Hipsters" are usually too busy blowing through their trust funds to be committing something so mundane and non-ironic as petty theft. These were probably just homeless people; your confusion is understandable.
12
PLEASE STOP SAYING THE "H-WORD"!!!
13
I doubt they were even homeless. Just greedy criminals.
14
If you don't sell to the hipster they will not steal your stuff. This is like being unset because the hippies steal your bongs at a headshop.
15
That looks like the art director ganking a whack birdy coin purse in his great northern beard.Surely you jest!!
16
What is a hipster and why are you all protecting them? Does anyone claim to be a hipster? I thought this person was saying that the use of the term hipster should be a pejorative term based on action, not a term to ascribe to a group of people and what they wear.
17
I think that the pejorative in question is "hipster thief" leaving out the still appreciated hipster intellectual, hipster barista, hipster bicyclist (although I have also heard that in the pejorative). I would submit that by stealing from local business they are neither hip nor any other variation of that word. I would suggest instead that they falsely pose a hip attitude insomuch as they are posers. So let us henceforth call them poser thieves and remove the word hipster from the aforementioned negative connotation. [Makes farting sound with lips, wags middle finger at audience, and exits left]

Can anyone use hipster with a positive connotation? Does anyone claim to be a hipster? I have never heard anyone claim to be a hipster. I hope that you all understand that you took time and energy out of your life to intellectually articulate why a rant at pretentious shoplifters who steal from local businesses, should not use the ambigious pejorative term hipster. You are fucking iddiots. Are you so PC that you can not bitch about anything? What negative pejorative terms do you use? Lets discuss the cultural sigificance. You even bitched about the term you bitch you stupid bitch.......

Please wait...
