Gary Coe,
I agree with you. Their are several very legitimate, professional town car companies that do provide premium service. They also have sufficient insurance for their customers.
The BIGGEST problem is that many Portland hotel bellmen and other hotel staff leave their front door wide open for corruption and illegal activity. Kickbacks/bribes provide incentives for the rogue town car and limo drivers to exist.
If the GMs of the hotels in Portland were interested in keeping their customers safe and the market honest they could stop most of the illegal town car activity at their own front door.
Just by prohibiting their staff from taking kickbacks from town cars, shuttles, taxis, and limos.
This would at least curb most of the corruption. As long as the hotels of Portland allow opportunities for graft to exist their will be those who take advantage of it. Creating more corruption, lower standards, and an ever growing need for scumbags.

Sir:

I believe the Bard was correct when he made the observation about a person making "much ado about nothing."

You are having a fit about people acting like people. The management of the hotels can only do so much. Are they supposed to detail a security guard to keep watch over each and every employee that the public comes in contact with?

You expect a change in the law? The government can only do so much, and, frankly, government has much bigger problems to deal with than some petit issue that puts your nose out of joint.

To wit: there are homeless people on the street starving to death with horrible, communicable diseases that could be cured if anyone cared to take action; there is a war on in two foreign countries that is decimating our military and costs you far more money out of your pocket; AIDS infections are increasing in the U.S.; gas prices are up over four dollars a gallon, should I go on? You appear to be obsessing on people acting like people.

Dumpster, this is how life is. People are essentially corrupt. This horse is as dead as you are going to make it. And, you have certainly alienated every desk clerk, concierge, bell person, and hotel manager in the city. At this point, the only person your obsessive behavior is hurting is you.

So, get over it, Dumpster. Before a mob of your co-workers runs you out of town on a rail covered in tar and chicken feathers.

I remain your humble servant,

Jacomus

Thank you Jacomus,
We have made an issue about something unimportant
to most people. We have put hotel staff as well as GMs on edge. We have pissed off some gypsys. All we've seen and heard from our co-workers is their support for us. Some of the cab companies have posted the articles from The Mercury and OPB news. The city has communicated with us. I'm sorry to inform you Jacomus that things are in the process of changing when it comes to enforcement. Really.
I agree there's always going to be corruption. On the other side there is always going to be honest, hardworking people. People that put the quality of the job they do first. Not who they have to suck and or bend over for to get ahead. Most people I meet have higher standards than you Jacomus. Especially when it involves their money. A bribe is completely different than a commission. Most people would rather not involve themselves with scumbags and their shady deals. Thank you again Jacomus for getting my dead horse to rise. Once again baby! Ride it Jacomus. Ride.

Please wait...
