"Trainings conducted by mental health and diversity experts can help the bureau address the additional barriers minority populations face, and offer responsive strategies for overcoming these barriers and minimizing tragedy. Additionally, a nuanced understanding of the historical contention between police and African Americans may provide cops a more contextual understanding of a black citizen's adverse reaction to them, as well as their own reactions toward that citizen—which would be a start.-..."

To which I would add, being incapable of PC nicespeak, you could summarize that whole diatribe in 14 words:
Black people and white people have never gotten along. It's time to fix that.

"Fire Matt Davis", you're suck a jerk! How'd YOU like it some damned cop beat up YOUR daughter/niece/cousin or whatever?

This 'Fire Matt Davis' guy has some obsession with Matt Davis. Perhaps he's alternate universe Matt Davis, with a goatee and British accent.
Oh wait.

It's not so simplistic. Mentally ill citizens are dying, in large part, because cops have not been trained on how to approach folks with special circumstances/needs (ie paranoia, trauma). Trainings could offer pro-active tools in preventing extreme escalations of violence ( ie Robert Chasse did not need to die because he was peeing in a public space). Additionally, the implementation of cultural competency trainings and diversity education, across all institutions, is one way to "fix" race relations. Though, again, I unfortunately do not believe it is so simple. As I said, it's a start.
