Bravo Mr. Lovett, bravo! You are completely right, Miss Skinner's "review" reflects not only a paucity of relevant knowledge, but also a troubling sublimation of personal issues and poor writing skills to boot. Why the Mercury insists on filling their film section, which already suffers from a dearth of talent, with the inane ramblings of an uptight administrator is beyond me!

Ugh, and I thought Mr. Lovett was a pretentious ass. For the record, I'm a cinephile and a film snob, and I though Marjorie Skinner's review was one of the best I've read in the Merc's film section. I suppose it didn't hurt that I completely agreed with it.

"Paucity of knowledge"? "Dearth of talent"? Really? I was a Latin teacher and I still wouldn't let those slip out of my mouth. Go back to playing chess and leering at teenagers in coffee shops, please. A Gaspar Noé fan criticizing someone for a "troubling sublimation of personal issues," without the slightest hint of irony, really does drop one into a K-Hole of cognitive dissonance.

Hey Blasphemer.I think Ovidus digs Skinner and is biased against aging peoples.Welcome to hate street.Get out while you still have some brains or become a bored poop like me still waiting for some true talent at this paper. The Merc can't take critcism and why does everyone get put down for being old.The shit seems to flow upstream.Viva la Raza !!!!
5
Notice how the winner this week was the only commentor who didn't criticize the merc?
6
The Merc is run by a bunch of gay pussies, hence, no stones. They would never say anything against muslims like they do with Christians, lest they have to write in some dark hidden corner with the likes of Salmon Rushdie, when Humphries aint hiding there already.

Thank you.
7
When did the Mercury claim to be a "Christian newspaper"?
8
"The Merc is run by a bunch of gay pussies, hence, no stones."

Like the stones YOU showed posting that under a pseudonym?
9
"Aging Peoples?" Hilarious. I'm 27. And I hate chess. And coffee shops. And Christians. Since when does literacy and a command of the English language imply one is an old geezer? Is being well-spoken so foreign to the Mercury and its readers as to engender fantasies of old men in coffee shops leering at teenagers? Am I detecting some transference here Ovidius?
10
Why would the Merc. make fun of Islam when it is CHRISTENDOM that holds the most power, religious-wise, in the West, by faaar?
11
I didn't say you were aging or a Christian. For the record, I was only implying that you were a pretentious young guy whose arrogance is probably the product of a slow social development. I wouldn't expect anyone over the age of 14 to enjoy a Gaspar Noé film, unless the engine of their deep-seated misogyny propelled them into the theater.

Please wait...
