“What Can We Do For You Now, Vancouver?” is the most astute response I’ve seen to your city council voting 4-1 (lead by your “green” mayor--what a joke) to help pay to double the number of cars coming south on I-5 into Portland every morning and on weekends.

To allow a doubling of cars on the bridge is anti-environmental.

To offer to pay for it is plain stupid.

Or corrupt. Four billion dollars creates a lot of profit and jobs. As Deep Throat said of Watergate, “follow the money” to understand why this boondoggle has the support it does.

And don’t even dream that the cost estimates your idiot politicians are discussing will be the final amount you are on the hook to pay. The rebuilt San Francisco Bay Bridge--which will add no new traffic lanes, by the way--was originally estimated to cost under $2 billion. It is now estimated at $5 billion, and the price just keeps rising.

From a San Francisco Bay Area environmentalist.

A few misinformed quotes...Vancouver BC was actually named after Vancouver, WA. So, what Vancouver can do for Portland is give a good history lesson on the Hudson's Bay Trading Company. Hell, even I knew that from 4th grade and I lived in Oregon.

Given the political shenanigans in Portland, the lack of decent decent leadership and foresight, Vancouver looks more and more appealing everyday. I will take Vancouver City Council over the Portland City Council any day.

Interesting point,'Couve apologist. Made me look up the Wiki. bio of English explorer George Vancouver, for who both cities are named - the odd thing is that despite his navigational and cartographic acumen he missed the Columbia River altogether on his voyages.

Not sure what this signifies for present day Vancouver, WA, or the $4 billion SOV commuter bridge, but sure seems like some kind of omen.
