Seattle-based writer Kurt B. Reighley, who was scheduled to read tonight from his recently released book, United States of Americana at Powell's City of Books on Burnside, is stuck in Seattle, the city crippled by icy hills and abandoned cars. His book is a fascinating and insightful look into why modern culture still embraces things of the past, connecting the dots from the reemergence of vinyl records and junk/thrift stores, to DIY crafting and the thriving Americana scene where rustic reigns supreme. No rescheduled date has been set, but we hope he is able to bring his clever witticisms and gentle demeanor to Portland very soon.
