New Weird America pioneer Matt Valentine is as prolific as they come. As a founder of Tower Recordings, Bummer Road, and MV & EE (among others), Mr. Valentine has released over 100 records, often on his own label Child of Microtones. Recorded in Vermont at his home studio, "Maximum Arousal Farm," his newest solo LP What I Became (released today on Woodsist) condenses the most focused and tensile of his sonic adventures into a single document. The druggy psych-folk raga of "PK Dick" anesthetizes with submerged guitar tones, tambura, hand percussion, and autoharp, but it's Valentine's vertigo-inducing vocal meanderings that lend this tune an intention and spirit all its own.
