As reported, New York DJ Jonathan Toubin was the victim of the Radio Cab incident at the Jupiter Hotel yesterday, in which cab driver Terry Uding suffered a diabetic emergency and drove into Toubin's hotel room, seriously injuring Toubin, who was asleep in bed at the time.
A couple updates, courtesy of Vice: Toubin's condition has apparently improved, and he is now "stable," which is a great relief—although OHSU has declined to officially comment on his condition. Right now his family is asking for privacy and for people's prayers, according to the Oregonian. A couple benefit events in New York, plus one in Austin, Texas, and one in New Orleans, have been set up for Toubin's aid. I expect a Portland event will be announced shortly. In the meantime, a Paypal has been set up for Toubin: It's firstname.lastname@example.org, and it is currently the best way of helping Toubin and his family during this difficult recovery. In the meantime, Vice's piece on Toubin and the incident—written by two people who know him well, Beverly Hames and Nick Gazin—is a heartfelt, inspiring read. Very much worth checking out.
Get well soon, Jon.
