[UPDATE: This contest is closed and the winner has been notified.]
There's no "of"—it's simply Lawrence Arabia, the name behind shambling, churchyard folk-pop that's both haunting and comfortable, drawing comparisons to the Zombies, Serge Gainsbourg, and the more melancholy strains of the Beatles. Lawrence Arabia is primarily the work of New Zealander James Milne, who seems to have perfectly captured the late-autumn damp of our fair city in the miniature pop symphonies on new, third album The Sparrow. (Milne has also done work with the Reduction Agents, the Brunettes, and the Ruby Suns.)
Lawrence Arabia is coming to Mississippi Studios on Sunday, December 2, and we're giving away a pair of tickets! All you have to do is send an email to this address with "Lawrence Arabia" in the subject line. Please include your first and last name in the email. We'll select a winner at random (if you would like to bribe me with the new Blu-ray of David Lean's 1962 epic I will certainly take it into consideration). This contest closes Monday at noon, so you'll have the entire holiday weekend to get in your entry. Good luck!
