On Monday night, a large crowd assembled at Valentine's to see off Portland's Nadia Buyse. For the next three months she'll be in Berlin working on a rock opera, and to celebrate her departure, her former band the Caldonias reformed for one night only to perform. Spunky local duo Needles and Pizza joined in on the fun as openers. Not only was the night a hark back to both punk-rock and girl-group proclivities, but those making up the audience brought to mind the time when off-the-grid venues Storefront and Dunes still ruled the night. The initial era of the Caldonias may be over, but energy and patronage remains.
