MusicfestNW is right around the corner! (This is a colorful figure of speech; in measurements of human time, MFNW is actually five days away, commencing on Tuesday, September 3 and continuing until Sunday, September 8.) And with it comes one of the best MFNW traditions: KEXP-hosted free shows at the Doug Fir (830 E Burnside).

Next week, Thursday through Saturday, KEXP is bringing a dozen great bands into the cool, dark Doug Fir basement to play daytime shows. These sets are totally free—you don't even need a MFNW wristband—and provide a great opportunity to see some really good music before you get blackout drunk at the FIDLAR/Mean Jeans show and have to spend the rest of the weekend in bed. (Don't lie! You know you're gonna.) Check out the bands they've got lined up:

Thursday, September 5
10:30 am—Chvrches
12:30 pm—The Baseball Project
2:30 pm—!!!
4:30 pm—Austra

Friday, September 6
10:30 am—The Shivas
12:30 pm—Washed Out
2:30 pm—Beat Connection
4:30 pm—The Love Language

Saturday, September 7
noon—Titus Andronicus
1:30 pm—The Dodos
3:00 pm—The Thermals
4:30 pm—Sonny and the Sunsets

A chance to see (among many others) Titus Andronicus, Sonny and the Sunsets, and Chvrches for free? Yes please. Again, these are totally free shows and are open to all ages. The Doug Fir holds around 300; attendance is first come, first served.

You'll be stuck at work? Cheer up, Charlie; you can listen to the performances on KEXP through the magic of computers.
