Though represented via Portland’s Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Melody Owen is perhaps best known for her time spent far away from here. Much of Owen’s recent work is informed by residencies in Paris, Quebec, and Iceland: storybook-like drawings that are given uncanny edges suggesting things invisible to its subjects, crisp anatomical studies of humans and animals. In this criminally under-capitalized double feature, Owen will present a horde of video projects made by those she’s encountered in her travels. The first installment, circles and spinning wheels, consists of films that vary by virtue of format (animation, music videos, documentary, etc.) and culture, but that are threaded together under a common preoccupation of circular shapes. If i could crowd all my souls into that mountain collects pieces within which the international participants turn the camera on themselves, including familiar faces like E*Rock, Liz Haley, and Zak Margolis.
