In August: Osage County a large midwestern family is drawn back to its home base in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to cope with the disappearance of daddy dearest (and his drinking problem). At the center of the emergency summit is mother Violet, played by Oscar-winner Estelle Parsons, chugging prescription drugs and generally coming undone. This chillingly funny play by Tracy Letts (Superior Donuts, Man From Nebraska) received a 2008 Pulitzer, and Tonys for Best Play and Best Director. It was propelled by exceptional reviews into one of the longest running (and long-running, at over three hours) plays ever on Broadway, although Broadway Across America's touring production is at the Keller for significantly less time—just six days.
