Mynabirds, Lenore

The Mynabirds' current West Coast jaunt isn't a repeat of past performances. Laura Burhenn (singer, songwriter, and head of the rotating Mynabird flock) will be offering "new, intimate, and orchestral" arrangements of her band's three-album catalog. I can't tell you exactly what that will entail—"intimate" suggests small, while "orchestral" suggests very, very big—but I think it's safe to expect a violin or two. These reworkings will provide a marked counterpoint to the digital timbres on her recent Lovers Know, which saw Burhenn expanding upon the amber-tinted classic-soul vibe she uncovered on the Mynabirds' splendid debut, 2010's What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood. But with Burhenn's affecting, expert songs as fuel, tonight's likely to be pretty spellbinding, regardless of the form the music takes. NED LANNAMANN
