British EDM composer Gold Panda based his latest record, Good Luck and Do Your Best, on “ganbatte kudasai,” an extremely common Japanese expression said to him by a train conductor while he was traveling. Compared to his past records, Lucky Shiner and Half of Where You Live, Gold Panda’s Four Tet-esque glitchy sound collages reach more melodic heights this time around, capturing the loneliness, awe, and dislocation of travel alongside the glow of homecoming.
