This Is Displacement

TBA

NW Film Center's Whitsell Auditorium (map) Downtown
Sat., Sept. 18, 12:30 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 19, 12:30 p.m. 2010

$8-9

Co-curated by Carolyn Lee Anderson and Emily Johnson, This Is Displacement addresses the theme and experience of displacement in Native American history and contemporary life. Both curators are of Native American descent but were raised in predominately Western households, thereby informing their own feelings of displacement. The show features video work, audio work, paintings and sculptures, and dance/performance pieces by artists from all across the country. One of the dance pieces claims to tackle something called “igloo-myth,” which I guess is the myth that everyone in Alaska lives in an igloo. If you still believe that everyone in Alaska lives in an igloo, go to this show to learn the truth about igloos so we can finally put an end to igloo-myth once and for all. AM
