Three exhibits are up at Elizabeth Leach, for their 30th anniversary. Mise-en-Scène features seven painters and photographers, all working figuratively, including Vik Muniz, who marries myth and the quotidian (Medusa's head appears in a slop of spaghetti, Che Guevara's face emerges from black bean soup) and Luke Butler, who paints and reworks Star Trek scenes to an uncanny end. Also on display are California artist Jack Pierson's collages of Hollywood starlets and scrambled marquee signs, and John Beech's pieces on paper, in this case primarily photographs that have been selectively painted over to render them as minimalist abstracts.
