If there’s one thing monologist Mike Daisey—he of “21 Dog Years,” his piece about working at Amazon.com—it’s that he loves weaving together bits about arcane-yet-relevant history. He puts his personal quirk to good use in his new piece, If You See Something, Say Something, a story about “the surprising, secret history of the Department of Homeland Security.” Thank goodness Daisey is a funny guy—in a hit-them-where-it-hurts Michael Moore kind of way—because this work could otherwise send you into fits of depression, as he explores “what it means to be secure, and the price we are willing to pay for it.”
