Leftbank (map) North
Mondays-Sundays, 12-6 p.m. and Wednesdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Continues through Oct. 4 2008

Israeli-born performance and video artist Tamy Ben-Tor transforms into a myriad of characters to explore issues like xenophobia, national identity, and the Holocaust, employing different wigs and accents. Ben-Tor’s film Baby Eichmann, starring herself as a flutist in a blonde wig and mustache, pokes fun at the German reaction to Hitler after the war. Her other film Gewalt has Ben-Tor as an Egyptian woman discussing how the Jews helped America become a superpower, and as a woman in Ukrainian garb singing excerpts from a Primo Levi memoir in a made-up language to a backdrop of illustrations of anthropomorphic cartoon pigs.
