Not to sound too giddy over something I haven’t even seen yet, but holy shit, this sounds killer. If you have the slightest interest in film, TV, sports, art, or, let’s say, the modern world, I can’t imagine Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait not sounding excellent. Douglas Gordon and Phillipe Parreno—from Glasgow and Paris, respectively—decided to create a portrait of French soccer superstar Zinedine Zidane. (He’s the jerk who headbutted that Italian player in the last World Cup!) Gordon and Parreno did so by training no less than 17 cameras on the man during one of his matches, never leaving him for a second through the entire game. This is the fascinating-sounding result, and once you add in that there’s a soundtrack by Mogwai and occasional commentary from both Zidane and the game’s announcer, 21st Century Portrait sounds incredibly promising.
