After Roger Ebert panned an early edit of Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, the actor/filmmaker/model reportedly called the critic a "fat pig" with "the physique of a slave-trader." Yes, Gallo is quite the comedian. He's also a longtime New York musician with a history of anachronistic songwriting. On the soundtrack to 1998's Buffalo 66, he had the audacity to place his own alto-tenor voice and lo-fi instrumentation alongside vintage Yes and King Crimson. Somehow, it worked out just fine. RRIICCEE, his improvised live project with guitarists Eric Erlandson (ex-Hole) and Cory Lee Granet (ex-Warlocks), promises large-scale collaboration without jam-band clichés. Considering the breadth of Gallo's art, expect new and old alike. MM
