One of rock's most notorious casualties, Roky Erickson has staged the unlikeliest of comebacks. After blasting out prototypical, frenzied garage rock in the 1960s with the 13th Floor Elevators—and playing a huge role in the birth of psychedelic music—Erickson spent subsequent years in and out of institutions, his drug-frittered mind exacerbated by unnecessary electroshock therapy. The 2005 documentary You're Gonna Miss Me showed what had become of the man, but (thankfully) he's performing once again, finally escaping the shadows of his past. This tour, he's backed by the dark psychedelia of the Black Angels from Austin, Texas. The Angels will play a set on their own, then act as backing band for Erickson, joining the legend for renditions of classics from his warped catalog like "Slip Inside this House" and, of course, "You're Gonna Miss Me."
