Hi,
I had to write to clear up a little misleading information. Twerking was first mentioned (and recognized as a dance move) in New Orleans by early 1990's bounce artists, DJ Jubilee and MC Cheeky Blakk. The origins of twerking have nothing to do with the Ying Yang Twinz. An easy Google search would bring that information to light with the writings of one of New Orleans most prominent music journalists and music historians, Alison Fensterstock. Please read about the above artists for a fun dive into the world of New Orleans music that stretches beyond the much adored other native New Orleans genre of jazz. Youtube is also a gret source to help you dive into your music research after reading some of the documentation by Miss Fensterstock and other New Orleans cultural ambassadors. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Bonny MacDonald (half-Portlander/one-third New Orleanian...)
