Five Questions for a Beekeeper

a friend of mine was recently told they had to get rid of their bees due to neighbor complaints (not stings) is there a way to get around this? finding ways to grow your own food shouldn't be kept from people who are into it, and it bums me that the city is promoting the reduction of self reliance.

People ask me about my job all the time, too!

Ruby--I think in order to have the hive in the first place you have to have documented signatures from your neighbors agreeing to it, and then there are a number of other requirements like fence height and that sort of thing. If your friend of mine just put a hive in his/her yard w/o getting the proper permits and whatnot, they could have a more difficult time. Have them contact the good people at the Urban Farm Store on SE Belmont, and I'm sure they can hook them up with contact info for the appropriate people at the city.

"Or what? You'll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you?"

Wonderful piece, but I've been drinking Nettles tea for years, and my allergies are radically, notably, quantifiably better. Let the tea steep for 20 minutes. Drink it every day. Mix it with peppermint. My allergies were mostly dust and spring pollen.

BTW, I'm a hobbyist beekeeper, and this guy is awesome.
