Too bad about 1977 not being filmed. It was the best of the books, and in many ways, the most important in dealing with the actual Yorkshire Ripper.
One wishes they could have done this with James Ellroy's LA Quartet (obviously the main source of inspiration for Pierce). Black Dahlia was a miss, although if De Palma's last few "misfires" are any indication, I may come around to it for its own charms. L.A. Confidential was good, up until the groan-inducing ending.
