You're right, that didn't all make it into the trailers; the trailers made it look pretty lame. (And I liked "Fear and Loathing" a lot.) Maybe I'll give this a chance after all. I want to believe that the writer/director of "Withnail and I" couldn't go *too* wrong.
I thought the LSD trip was one of the better scenes in the movie, I don't know what in the world that person is complaining about it for! That is one of the things H.S.T. is known for, exploration of the mind and body and excessive substance use.
Overall I'd say the movie was ok, not awesome, but ok. It is perfectly timed for the moment, that is why it was made probably. The commentary about American capitalism and the waste and destruction it brings to far flung places around the world was good and poignant. Some amuricans hate that kind of thing but I like it, it's the truth.
It was better than %90 of movies made I'd say.
Ribisi was pretty awesome in his role. And the locations were pretty cool.
