TarBoush Is Looking for its Niche

Totally agree about the disappointing decor, but they're a solid entry in the Portland Mediterranean pantheon. Points for amazing and friendly service every time I've been there. Try the Sawda, the chicken liver special with garlic and pomegranate molasses. Absolutely delicious.

Welcome the the trenches, Tony!

Thanks, Allison. I'll absolutely be going back, and the Sawda will be on my list.

Hi Tony. I completely agree with you-that Baba Ghanoush is creamy and delicious. I like that in the same review you suggest going to a vegan food cart AND to order leg of lamb..it shows you've got some food range:)
Thanks!

Hi Jake. Thanks for taking the time to scan my meter. My "props" weren't for Lebanese wine-makers' efforts, but TarBoush's attempt to introduce me to Lebanese wine. And I was being earnest...I was interested in trying it, but wasn't blown away. My bias--which I copped too--is for the range of flavors we see in the Willamette Valley. I'm happy to drink wines that differ, but I imagine I've developed a taste for the wine I grew up with. I love burgundies too, probably because of the similarities in climate.
Are you a fan of Lebanese wine? I'd honestly be interested in a recommendation.
And yes, I love Lauro Kitchen, and it's absolutely mediterranean. But I'm certainly not the first person to point out the crossover there.

Tony, don't kiss this guy's ass. He completely flushed your review on the basis of a word choice and an admitted wine bias. Wrong approach.

What you need to do is belittle him for his failed restaurant critic job search and encourage him to try harder to get under the desk next time in the job interview.

Don't be a puss. This is the big leagues. Dont blow it.

Tony, I'm not sure if you've been to Karam, but for me it's the benchmark in Portland, not Nicholas or Ya Hala, which are a step down, imo. Give it a try some time. Mezza and falafel are among the best in town and they have lots of very good stewed dishes. Try the whole wheat pita.

Please wait...
