Does Son of a Biscuit's Hot Nashville Chicken Take Flight?

Chicken Coop on 50th and Division is the best fried chicken in town.

I went a week or two after it opened and had the sad chicken sandwich. Way too heavily breaded - one of the great things about Nashville Hot Chicken is its thin, crispy crust, which is perfect with juicy chicken and heat. Overly breaded huge chicken on a giant bun does not make for a good experience. It's a shame that he ditched it rather than refining it, because Portland is in need of a good chicken sandwich.

Good to hear things are improving though. The chicken in the photo definitely looks better than mine.

Minor gripe: Nashville Hot Chicken usually has levels of spice ranging from kind of spicy to instant death. At least, the good places like Prince's and Hattie B's do. It'd be nice to have more than just "hot" or "not hot".

For my money (well, at least $4.50 of it), the chicken and biscuit "sandwich" at Pine State is very hard to beat for value, as well as being both tasty and more filling. Admittedly, I have not been to SOB yet. I haven't yet been convinced it is a value proposition. I do pine for the old KFC 2 piece and a biscuit; though I don't think it cost $8.50.

you hipsters just love to overpay for less don't you.

Meanwhile every other square mile of this beautiful country has the best chicken sandwich and biscuits ever created.

I'm opening a place across the street that will sell half a chicken for $25
