Rogue Bones & Brew

Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Fri-Sun, $5

Oregon BBQ enthusiasts come together in the biggest BBQ event of the year, Bones & Brew. Restaurants from all over the state come to town and smoke their meat special, plus look for booths from local BBQ faves like Cannon's Rib Express, Yam Yam's, and Tennesse Reds. On an interesting and slightly disturbing note, the Portland Police Department will be going head to head against Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue in a rib eating contest (Sat, 1:30 pm). Tualatin Valley is the reigning champ. Too bad it's not a people-shooting contest--we know the Portland Police would win that one. Resentments aside, the Bones and Brew is a haven for meat lovers, and besides that a pretty damn good time. KS

In an effort to turn Sandy into a tourist attraction, rather than a rest stop on the way to Mt. Hood, the Sandy community folk have organized a huge Oktoberfest--in September. The festival includes a 10,000 square foot biergarten, a weingarten, and a microgarten featuring free samples of Widmer and Red Hook beer. Besides boozy beverages the fest has sausages and tons of other food, a car show, and polka music by LynnMarie & the Boxhounds, a band that has had the illustrious honor of three Grammy Nominations for best polka album of the year. If you don't feel like driving to Sandy, but still want a bunch of beer and sausages, head over to The Berlin Inn's Barkin Oktoberfest, where there'll be a dog obstacle course, a grape stomping competition, and sausage eating contests for humans and dogs. Too bad they don't compete against each other. KS Sandy Oktoberfest,18090 Langensand Rd, Sandy, Oregon, Fri-Sun, Sept 10-12th, .; Barkin Oktoberfest, Berlin Inn, 3131 SE 12th, Fri-Sun,

Belmont Street Fair

Belmont from SE 20th to 50th, Sat, Sept. 11, 10 am-5 pm

Man, this weekend is all about beer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. This year's Belmont street fair hosts a beer garden, flea market, parade (11:30 am), crafts fair, and of course tons of food. Eat, drink, be merry, and watch hippies do that weird Phish dance when the live music starts bumping. KS
