Do you have an itch in your britches for some boot-scootin' grub and entertainment? Here's a chance to saddle up to a Texas-style barbecue buffet featuring mesquite grilled chicken, roasted corn on the cob, BBQ pork ribs, pepper bacon black beans, and other tasty treats. After you've filled your belly, check out the Silent Western Art Auction or dance to Monty Moss and the Broken Records. Of course, no cowboy party would be complete without the Whiskey Tasting Bar. So get your cowboy buzz on and then take your ride on Buck, the Mechanical Bull. This event is a benefit for the Forward Stride Center for Therapeutic Recreation—thus the $75 entry fee. The Back Room at Ripe, 2240 N Interstate, Sun Oct 2, 7 pm, $35

This bacchanal, abundant with food, drink and music will include a live poetry reading by Wayne Koestenbaum, a vibrant poet and art critic. he menu will be prepared with the evening's theme—"Food, Poetry, and Exhaustion"—in mind, and promises have been made that both animals and vegetables will be served. There will also be live music from Marriage Records (www.marriagerecs.com). CB

The 54th Annual Greek Festival, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3131 NE Glisan, Fri Sept 30: 10 am-10 pm, Sat Oct 1: 10 am-10 pm, Sun Oct 2: noon-9 pm, free

Don't worry, there won't be a screening of My Big Fat Greek Wedding at this friendly festival. Instead, be prepared to gorge yourself with Greek delights including spanakopita, lamb gyros, syrup-drizzled baklava, and an array of salads. If you try something you really like, you can stop in at one of the many culinary demonstrations happening throughout the festival. This is a family event, so bring the kids and drop them off at the children's corner while you check out the beer and wine gardens. CB
