The McMenamins staple celebrates its 90th birthday with food and beverage specials along with music from Dr. Theopolis at this all-ages event. And no birthday is complete without balloons, right? And don't worry: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Wedding Crashers will be playing in the theater in case you have globophobia (fear of balloons). CSB

Wild About Game Week, Oct 14-23, participating restaurants

Did you know there's an organization in our very town whose goal is "to provide the widest variety of sustainable, free range game birds and meats" and "to enhance the public's culinary education and titillate their palate with exquisite game"? They're called Nicky USA and they really want you to eat wild game—they've coaxed an impressive lineup of local restaurants to feature wild birds and meat specials all this week. Restaurants involved include Andina, Blue Hour, clarklewis, Doug Fir (weird), Gotham Tavern, Mint, and tons more. See www.nickyusa.com for the full lineup. Wild About Game Week culminates on October 22 with the all-day Wild About Game and Wine Celebration at the Heathman Hotel. JWS

Aura offers up a classy place for refreshments and local jazz in their new series called "Sessions," which will directly follow the weekly Portland Art Museum's after-hours event. If you can't make it out this time, "Sessions" happens every Wednesday through December 14 with new jazz artists each week. CSB
