Matador, 1967 W Burnside, 222-5822, daily noon-7 pm, $1 PBR, $2.50 wells

More matabang for your matabuck, just by hitting the Matador a bit earlier. Though I can't say I've had the pleasure to be in the Matador by noon, my guess is that it's the perfect place downtown to ditch the boss and indulge in a three-martini lunch before going back to work and telling that bastard how you really feel. Matchbox Lounge, 3203 SE Division, 234-7844, Mon-Fri 4-6 pm, Sun all day, $1 off drafts, $1 off wells, cheap food

Summertime has finally arrived and nothing sounds more pleasant than relaxing outside the Matchbox Lounge, enjoying a beer or three while working on my tan. The food rivals neighbor Pok Pok, and at these prices, you're going to have to pry me off the bench when closing time comes around. SB

The Melting Pot, SW 6th & Main, 517-8960, Mon-Fri 4-6:30 pm, daily cocktail & wine specials, $3 draft, cheap food

It's all about melted cheese and bread cubes, baby. Walking into the Melting Pot, you'd never guess that fondue used to be an appetizer for wife swapping back in the '70s. In fact, there is nary a wife swapper to be seen in the joint. But I'm sure if you quaff enough of the daily drink special, anything is possible. PAC

Mickey Finn's Brew Pub, 4336 SE Woodstock, 788-1587, daily 3-7 pm & 10 pm-close, $3.50 wells, $2.50 domestic drafts, $3 microbrews, cheap food

Mickey Finn's is probably the most American place I've ever frequented and I mean that as a compliment. The waitstaff is friendly, the television sets and portions are equally humungous, and the cuisine is decidedly unpretentious. No elitist small plates here! SB
