The pending ballot measure stipulates that only the State is authorized to levy the tax. All of these local taxes will be ruled null and void when challenged in court. Black market weed is not only better, it's cheaper because of the tax. The whole notion that legalization will supposedly take the profit out of crime is a farce in the face of taxation.
In Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore unexpectedly, walked into unlocked homes where the residents are armed same as in the US, yet he didn't get shot. The subtlety was lost, but perhaps the reason why Canada doesn't have this problem is because in Canada, the kids don't have quite so many toys, but one parent is usually at home.
It may be time to rethink the current parenting model of Americans: schools as daycare centers, smart phones and cars and Love Pink skank-ho "clothing" as sustenance and identity tools, and psychotropics as socializing tactics and self-development aren't doing any good.
I'm not sure why you conflate the CUB's report with impartiality.
This measure is a complete clusterfuck. It's not "partiality" to acknowledge it.
Hales should make the Alberta Street businesses who profit from Last Thursday pay too. It's a more of a drinking event than an art fair anyway. And while we're at it, invoice the asshat developers bulldozing historic homes to build $700k McMansions and split-lot monstrosities. They're profiting more than anyone else.
The Equity Foundation shouldn't have taken that money.
In regard to bike share sponsorship, we need to just admit it: PBOT lied. There is no
Well, I guess Dante James has found SOMETHING to do in this useless office.
Besides collecting handsome checks, that is.
Cut the overtime and cut the number of employees. It's all just busy work, anyway.

Ha ha Fluoride lost!
I thought I read in the O that the cost of the mounted patrol is well over the 175000 figure you list - so much so that a 75,000 donation is still just a drop in the bucket.
PERS is not taxable, private pensions definitely are.
How about a smooth move that's better than Ex Lax? Let's flush the rest of these Wiener people and their big industrial chemical polluter money out of our lives for good. Vote no.
It appears the NOTA (none of the above) option should be applied to political campaigns and not just propositions, measures and the like.
Musical chairs aboard the deck of the Titanic.
You do those who signed the petition challenging Portland City Council's unanimous approval of fluoridation a great disservice by calling us "foes."
What many of us aree opposed to is not fluoridation, but back door deals and circumvention of public process.
If this issue is voted down, the City Council and mayor only have themselves to blame for trying to pour it down our throats without input from those who drink the water.
I hope they fail isn't enough they get tax payer money plus charge fair?
I hope that something really significant happens because the funds to prevent it were diverted to the costs of funding the fluoridation issue. People are blindly up in arms over not having a vote in the matter as if the government has done something despicable instead of moving towards a standard that no rightful or sane mind has ever been able to present any reliable evidence against. I hope it gets humiliatingly defeated so those who worked so hard against it will feel like idiots. And as much as I hate to say it, it nearly makes me cry to even think it, but I hope that Amanda Fritz loses her seat largely as a result of the smears against her by the fluoridation people and her opponent using it as a wedge issue. Amanda Fritz is a better politician than Portland even deserves, and she will likely be defeated because of idiot moves like this and her steadfast unwillingness to accept the money she would need to fight against her opponent when issues like this are used against her in big money advertising campaigns.
