When did Paulsen's open their doors?
Do you have old pictures? I'm a member of Dead Memories Portland and thought it would be interesting to post some old pix's of this drug store. Thank you
Love this joint
to upscale not for everyday shopping. screams if your not a yuppie please leave the bluidind. Ive been in that store many times before and after the remodel I dont dress well store personell never says hi to me.always popping up in the aisle Im in afew feet away straighting something......I feel insulted
My date and I came in for food after picking up coffee at Starbucks just across the street. An older man who appeared to be the owner told us at the counter he would not serve us due to the Starbucks we had in our hands. We were then asked to exit the premises. A sign banning all Starbucks goods inside the store would have been handy to avoid the embarrassment of being asked to leave. Apparently, after a bit of Google searching I see other reviews where he does the same. The review on urbanspoon to be precise for anyone interested.
I can sympathize with small companies and their distaste of large corporations but to vilify and pass judgement on a customer without warning is unacceptable and pretentious.
I just moved to Portland and have been going to a lot of restaurants and bars, Laurelthirst is tops on my list....this place has great food ( one of those places where you can ask for some damn simple brown rice with your meal and they have it ) and a close-in mostly free music venue. YES it is a bar. YES it is full of hippies and hipsters. YES this is Portland. YES to the music played here, it is full and varied from rocky soulful blues to acoustic wonders to something I haven't heard yet. Love this place. Rock on.
1 star for stumptown coffee in the Ace Hotel and 3 stars for the NBA exacto knife Idea.
The stumptown coffee i had was the house coffee and it tasted thin, bitter and sour. Sour?
That's the only experience i have with the place so i give it one star at least.
I agree Michelle the waitress serving me insisted that I had had three drinks when I only had only two with my dinner it was the worst food I have ever had in my life I paid the bill after she proceccced to embrass me in front of my friend. Also when me and my friend went outside to smoke we found out that if you are looking for a bar where you can drink your own drinks on the patio brought in by the customers out of their purse or handed over the gate well then I guess this is the placce to go.
Working at a restaurant can be a crap job and I can sympathize but I have never had a someone be as rude and terrible to me here. With a small group of people I stepped to the other quiet, empty side of the restaurant to answer an important phone call instead of stepping out in the rain. The bartender demanded I leave loudly until I got off of the phone. Aggressive older tattooed guy named Rob I think. After I complained to the waiter and once sitting back down my friends asked what happened. As they looked across the restaurant he yelled "Do we have a problem?!". It made me and my friends so uncomfortable and me upset that we left. We had already gotten over it and sat down when this happened, like he was trying to start a fight with them because I was sitting with two men. It was two in the afternoon on a sunday. Plenty of other places with better service and better food.
Very chill and very good service. Just what you want in a neighborhood pub...laid back atmosphere, good food, great beer, and friendly staff. Lived all over Portland, and very satisfied to have this place as my new neighborhood hangout.
Fujin was a great little restaurant in the Hawthorne District of Portland Oregon, but was forced to close it s doors on the 30th of December of 2013. The food was always tasty and served up rapidly from their small kitchen. They are most widely know for their delicious Crispy Eggplant. I hope they will reopen soon in a new location.
A classic. Tasty n Sons gave birth to a tapas wielding restaurant that delights at every turn. This night the delicious twists included noodles "10 con 10" with bacon & sea urchin; empanada with braised beef, kumquat & chilies; meatballs with tomato-almond sauce & english peas; and a couple octopus dishes that wrapped themselves tightly around our tastebuds. Run don't walk to Toro Bravo. Bravo!
From the Delta Blues music spinning on the record player behind the counter to the Marionberry Pie, and everything in between, Sweedeedee is magical. A unique little place with great food, and a fun clientele. Highly recommended.
This place has a wonderful atmosphere. Every night feels like an exclusive party with your friends. Enough seating with plush tables and romantic side spots to chat. The DJ always has great music and the bartenders pour fantastic drinks.
Talk about a downhill slide; must be under new management. It’s ironic the bar next door is translated into, “The Sh*t” but the bar manager, Melissa cannot tolerate cursing when you are asked to explain about the f**cking crazy service in the restaurant; it offends her. You know what offends me - being treated like merde. I had no idea they had become so high brow in the 10 minutes it had been since a hostess literally screamed in my face over moving a damn table a 1/4".
story comin atcha: A hostess scooted 2 tables next to our party and announced we were going to, “be getting new neighbors,” which would normally be fine since I have been coming here for 12 years, but this evening happened to be my birthday. I joked with my husband after the hostess walked away by pushing the corner of the table not even an inch over. I was apparently being watched; the hostess came back over and told me “don’t move the tables” in an angry tone. I was only joking... and not with her. I went to the hostess desk to explain to the second hostess why I cared about the way it was done (my birthday, we were almost done, and the hostess' uncalled for tone). I was told, "no one cares" in response to explaining that it's my birthday...we did...the owner might. After some discourse head table hostess told me that I was lucky she was at work...presumably she was lucky to have a job. I struck a chord with my matching bad attitude & tone at this point, but I wasn't threatening anyone. The initial hostess must have told her I did something highly offensive because she screamed in my face, “Don’t move my tables” and the restaurant turned. She offered a business card to complain. Sitting next to strangers was so far from my concern. The bar manager came over after the screaming hostess caught everyone's attention and told me nothing they said would make me happy; that was about all she said besides don't curse, it offends me. I fucking curse...get over it and don't take a job at a place called "The Shit" if you are so sensitive. I’m sorry…happy birthday…we could have handled that better…hostess was having a rough night… I can think of a few things she could try, but acting like there is no right to complain when your hostess, of all people, is out of line is a crazy business model. I have been there loads and for a party every year and I am thankful this dinner was without the kids and friends. I will not return, but then no one here cares if you return or not. You don’t piss on your customers and follow that by acting like you don’t want them there anyway.
I read a couple reviews after our visit and glad that I didn't read them before, since we might have not went and enjoyed the great fondues and excellent service! Our waiter explained all the sauces to us and was very helpful. They were extremely prompt with refilling our bread and we thought the service was outstanding!
I am a customer that had been going on an on about how Tarboush was a great restaurant for years until now. It is Christmas and my partner and I were kicked out of the restaurant for returning an undercooked soggy pizza. My meal was excellent. I had the Vegetarian Platter which was down right delicious. There is a huge bitter taste in my mouth after the owner of the place got in my lady's face, literally in her face insulting her and stating that his food was not "Dog Poo (for lack of better words). There must have been some discrepancy between the person that took the plate back and the owner hearing about it because the food was never referred to as dog poo. I repeat, I am a loyal customer that praises this food all the time. The pizza was embarrassing for a restaurant of Tarboush's caliber. I felt like the owner wanted to punch me in the face when he stated in a fit of Christmas rage that we are not allowed back in the restaurant. This is Christmas. Though the food is good I have no desire to give my money to a man that treats people with a fury that I am sure reflects in his home life. I was scared of being physically assaulted. I meant it when I told him Merry Christmas that that his family be SAFE this holiday season. I have never felt so insulted and talked down to in my life. Such a shame. I loved that place and now I am banned for calling out a pizza that was not up to standards (their standards), nor did we ask for anything in its place or a hand out. Sad Sad Christmas for a restaurant that should represent themselves with the utmost hospitality.
A multiple time visitor, an every time enjoyer. Everything we've ever ordered is amazing - and my favorites include John's Breakfast, with kimchi. Magical!
One of the best and most unique Thai restaurants in the U.S., a pearl of Portland. Highly recommended.
Just may be the best fried chicken anywhere, and they definitely serve the best chicken and waffles. Off 'da charts. Highly recommended 'best in the U.S.'
